Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Reliefs.

Michael Ring

Question:

267 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to introduce tax breaks for people in the private sector who provide parking spaces in towns such as multi-storey parking facilities in view of the number of cars on Irish roads. [18609/98]

Section 344 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997, provides capital allowances in respect of expenditure incurred in the construction or refurbishment of multi-storey car parks. This relief was introduced in 1995 and was due to end on 30 June 1998. In my last budget I extended the relief for one year, to June 1999 for projects where 15 per cent of the total expenditure was incurred by 30 June 1998. I have no plans to grant a further extension.
