Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

345 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the role played by his Department in relation to the regulation of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; the amount paid by his Department to the society in the most recent year for which records are available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18306/98]

The ISPCA is a registered charity and I have no regulatory role in relation to it. My Department makes an annual payment to the ISPCA in respect of the costs incurred my them in the maintenance and operation of the register of guard dogs. In 1997 the payment amounted to £24,817.
