Vol. 494 No. 5

Written Answers. - Community Employment.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Question:

135 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the discussions, if any, he has had with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment on the recent Deloitte and Touche report on community employment commissioned by that Department. [18902/98]

The report on the community employment scheme prepared by Deloitte and Touche for the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment has only very recently been published. While I have had no direct formal discussions with my colleague, the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, on this matter, my Department was represented on the steering group overseeing the review of the community employment scheme.

As the Deputy will be aware, it is the Tánaiste's intention to discuss the contents of the report with the social partners in advance of drawing up any specific proposals in relation to the future development of the scheme. My Department will, of course, continue to co-operate as appropriate with the Tánaiste's Department in that process.
