Vol. 494 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Technology.

John Gormley

Question:

141 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the attention of his Department has been drawn to the Queensland police's interactive crime scene recording system which will be used for the first time in a murder trial in Brisbane Supreme Court; the plans, if any, his Department has to introduce similar technology; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18937/98]

I am informed by Garda management that they engage in ongoing monitoring of technological developments in the policing area. They are aware of the system referred to in the Deputy's question and it is something which can be looked at in the next stage of their information technology strategy, PULSE, which will incorporate crime investigation management tools.
