Vol. 494 No. 5

Written Answers. - Museum Projects.

Michael Ring

Question:

140 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the position in relation to the timber museum in Ballinrobe, County Mayo; when the project will be started; and if the purchase of the property has been completed. [18921/98]

I understand that the Deputy is referring to Moran's Mill at Bunnadober, County Mayo which is a very significant example of Ireland' industrial archaeology. I would like to confirm that the mill has indeed been acquired by the State and restoration works are under way at present. While the Deputy refers to the mill as a timber museum, there are no plans for such a museum at Moran's Mill at present, although the intention is that there will be visitor access.
