Vol. 494 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Question:

148 Mr. McGuinnes asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will examine the application of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to have his five year old daughter collected by the school bus which passes within one mile of his house; if the route of the bus will be reviewed to accommodate this arrangement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18925/98]

As a rule, primary school transport routes are planned so that, as far as possible, no eligible child will have to travel more than 1.5 miles to the pick-up point. My Department has only recently received an application for transport in respect of the pupil to whom the Deputy refers. A detailed report has been sought from Bus Éireann and the Deputy will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.
