Vol. 494 No. 5

Written Answers. - Motor Vehicle Emissions.

Ivan Yates

Question:

105 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the grant aid, if any, available in relation to the replacement of diesel injection pumps arising out of new smoke test regulations being introduced; the proposals, if any, there are in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18950/98]

Responsibility for ensuring the compliance of a vehicle with all elements of the proposed new car testing regime, including where applicable with the diesel smoke emission test, will rest with the owner of the vehicle. No grant assistance is envisaged in this regard, nor has this been made available in relation to the existing tests for heavy and light goods vehicles. The diesel emission test will not apply to cars manufactured before 1980.
