Vol. 494 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Question:

103 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will give his approval for the new sewerage plant in Crossmolina, County Mayo, in order that the project can go to tender; and if money will be provided for this plant to be constructed in 1999 in view of the environmental impact on the River Deel due to the poorly treated effluent. [18946/98]

This scheme is included in my Department's 1998 water and sewerage services investment programme as a scheme to be advanced through planning. Contract documents for the civil and mechanical elements of the scheme were recently received in my Department and are under consideration. Contract documents for site and sewer survey investigations, which are necessary to complete the main civil works tender documents, were approved last July and the local authority's tender report and recommendations in this regard are awaited. A certificate of completion of planning is also awaited.

John McGuinness

Question:

104 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the status of an application from Kilkenny County Council for funding the Graiguenamanagh sewerage scheme, County Kilkenny; and when the funding will be made available. [18948/98]

A preliminary report for this scheme has been approved, and it is understood that contract documents are being prepared by the local authority. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to provide funding for the scheme.
