Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Incentives.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

225 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has, to support the initiative of the Department of the Environment and Local Government in the area of waste management by introducing financial incentives to reduce waste including waste disposal taxes and charges; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19215/98]

While I am aware of the initiative entitled Waste Management: Changing Our Ways, I am sure Deputies will appreciate that it would not be appropriate for me to comment on taxation proposals in the run up to the forthcoming budget. However, I expect to receive a report from the interdepartmental group established following the January 1996 budget whose remit is to examine the strategic impact of taxation on environmental policy.
