373 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number of times he has made a written direction to the Secretary General of his Department under section 7 of the Public Service Management Act, 1997; the number of times, if any, a direction related to appointments or promotions within his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have issued no directions under section 7 of the Public Service Management Act regarding appointments or promotions in my Department. However, with regard to a senior management vacancy arising recently in my Department, I asked that it be filled by way of assignment from within staff already serving at that level in the Department with the resultant vacant post being advertised and filled in the normal way by Civil Service-wide competitive interview.
