Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Denis Naughten

Question:

374 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he will reopen applications for the sports capital grant; the changes, if any, to the previous scheme; if there will be an allocation of funds prior to the end of the year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19252/98]

Seamus Kirk

Question:

376 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he expects the national lottery grants scheme review to be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19620/98]

Richard Bruton

Question:

378 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the plans, if any, he has to advertise for recreational grants for local sporting organisations in the near future; and, if so, the budget available and the guidelines which will apply in allocating the budget. [19666/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 374, 376 and 378 together.

The sports capital programme is currently being reviewed by my Department. When the review is completed, which I expect will be towards the end of 1998, details of the new schemes will be widely publicised and it will then be open to clubs and organisations to apply for funding under the new programme. Pending completion of the review I am not in a position to say what changes, if any, will be made to terms and conditions of the existing schemes.

Details of the funding to be made available under the programme in 1999 and subsequent years will be decided in the context of the Estimates.

Michael Ring

Question:

375 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the position in relation to an application from a club (details supplied) for national lottery funding; and if it will be approved. [19457/98]

An application for funding under the sports capital programme was received from Kilmaine Community Grounds in February 1997.

1998 grants under the programme were allocated earlier this year and all funds have now been committed to a number of projects around the country. The club was advised in April 1998 and again in August 1998 that it was not among the projects approved for grant aid in 1998. However, the sports capital programme is currently being reviewed by my Department. When the review is completed, which I expect will be towards the end of 1998, details of the new schemes will be widely publicised and it will then be open to clubs and organisations to apply for funding under the new programme.

Jack Wall

Question:

377 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if a grant of £200,000 has been allocated to an organisation (details supplied) as announced earlier; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19642/98]

I have not made any announcement regarding a grant of £200,000 towards this project and there is no record of receipt of any application for such association in my Department.
