Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Construction Standards.

Bernard Allen

Question:

122 Mr. Allen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will make a statement on the failure of the National Standards Authority of Ireland to approve Euroflex Pipe in the construction of houses. [19324/98]

The National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) has responsibility to deal with applications in Ireland for what is known as Agrément certification, which is a process used to vouch or certify fitness for purpose of new building or construction products.

The Irish importer of Euroflex has brought judicial review proceedings challenging NSAI's position on the Agrément certification of Euroflex. I understand that the matter is likely to come to hearing before the courts within the next few months. It would therefore be inappropriate for me to comment further on the issue given that it is sub judice at present.
