Vol. 495 No. 2

Written Answers. - Railway Accidents.

Denis Naughten

Question:

113 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has received the report of the inquiry by Iarnród Éireann into the tragic accident which occurred on 30 September 1997 at an unmanned level crossing at Donamon, County Roscommon; if so, the conclusions and safety recommendations of this report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19729/98]

I am advised that the report of the Iarnród Éireann investigation into the fatal accident which occurred on 30 September 1997 at Slieve Corbally level crossing, County Roscommon, has just been submitted to my Department. As is normal practice, my Department's railway inspecting officer is considering the findings and recommendations of the report and will follow them up with Iarnród Éireann. I will convey the Iarnród Éireann findings directly to the Deputy.

I fully appreciate the trauma experienced by the victim's family in trying to come to terms with this tragic accident and my sympathies lie with them.
