227 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if an investigation will be carried out into a situation whereby a person (details supplied) in County Cork was informed in August 1997 by the Cork University Hospital that she required an MRI scan and still awaiting the scan 15 months later in spite of her neck being in a brace due to severe pain; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The provision of medical treatment in this instance is the responsibility of the Southern Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of patients on the waiting lists by specialty who are waiting for over two and three years respectively as at June 1998 at Beaumont Hospital, the Mater Hospital, Cappagh Orthopaedic Hospital and Temple Street Hospital. I have had inquiries made of the relevent agencies regarding the number of patients on waiting lists by specialty who are waiting for over two years and for over three years by specialty as at June 1998 and the information supplied to my Department in this regard is set out in the following tables.

Hospital provided information in respect of position as at 16 October 1998. I understand the hospital does not retain historical information after patients have been removed from the waiting lists
