Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Question:

346 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of Garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Area which remain open for 24 hours; the number of staff required to keep these stations open; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20561/98]

The detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources is a matter for the Garda authorities. They inform me that 43 Garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Area remain open for 24 hours. I am further informed by the Garda authorities that various factors influence the staffing requirements of individual Garda stations and therefore, the number of staff required to keep these stations open on a 24 hour basis varies from station to station.
