Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Seán Ryan

Question:

381 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the position of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who has been assessed in the Mater Hospital as having the mental age of a seven year old and is seeking a place in a suitable class or school; and when a place will be available for him. [20043/98]

I am aware of the case in question and I can assure the Deputy that I am most anxious that suitable educational arrangements be made for this child.

My Department's inspectorate is actively engaged in pursuing a suitable educational placement for the child in question. In the meantime, I am pleased to advise the Deputy that, as an interim measure, my Department has sanctioned home tuition for the child.
