Vol. 496 No. 1

Written Answers. - Library Projects.

Austin Currie

Question:

181 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will provide the necessary finance to South Dublin County Council for the public library at Lucan, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22100/98]

Officials from my Department met recently with council officials from South Dublin County Council in relation to proposals for a library at Lucan. As a result of this meeting, revised proposals on possible funding arrangements are expected to be submitted to my Department shortly. When proposals have been received, the matter will be considered further with a view to making an early decision regarding the project.

Question:

182 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will provide the necessary finance to South Dublin County Council for the public library at Palmerstown, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22104/98]

The development of the public library service is, in the first instance, a matter for library authorities. There are no proposals before my Department seeking funding for a library at Palmerstown.
