137 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to make cutbacks at the Gormanstown base in County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22092/98]
It was envisaged in the Defence Forces review implementation plan, approved by Government in March 1996, that the Army support squadron would be relocated from Gormanston Air Station to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel during the first phase, of the reorganisation, from 1996-8. The report to the steering group on the review of the Irish Naval Service and Air Corps which was published earlier this year also recommended that the Army support squadron should be relocated from Gormanston Air Station to Baldonnel. Gormanston camp will continue to be used as an army base.
