Vol. 496 No. 2

Written Answers. - Drug Treatment Services.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

118 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12, who urgently needs a detoxification programme, will be examined; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22204/98]

The provision of treatment for drug misusers in the Dublin area is a matter for the Eastern Health Board in the first instance. I have made inquiries from the board about the case referred to by the Deputy and I understand that the person concerned will be assessed shortly so as to determine his treatment needs. The health board will be in touch directly with the individual concerned to make the necessary arrangements.

The Eastern Health Board is making every effort to expand its range of treatment services in the Dublin area and I would appeal to all public representatives to support the board in its endeavours.
