Written Answers. - Vocational Education Committee Properties.

Paul McGrath

Question:

306 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has paid a sum of money by way of final payment for a property in Montbard, France, which was originally bought by Westmeath Vocational Education Committee; if so, the amount of this payment; the cost of this building to the taxpayer noting all previous payments, works and materials provided by FÁS; the plans, if any, he has to sell this property; if he has engaged agents to negotiate this sale; if so, the name of these agents; if he has a reserve price on this property; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23042/98]

The final payment has not been made on the property in Montbard, France, which was bought by Westmeath Vocational Committee. Expenditure incurred to date by my Department, through the vocational education committee, amounts to about £75,000. In addition an amount of £122,000 approximately including materials was expended on the refurbishment of the building under a FÁS training scheme. My Department is in contact with the Office of Public Works with a view to engaging a firm of estate agents to sell the property as soon as possible. No reserve price has been put on the property.
