Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Grant Payments.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

185 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason an eight per cent penalty was imposed on a person (details supplied) in County Galway in 1994 for cattle headage grants. [23618/98]

The EU Regulations which govern the area aid scheme stipulate that a penalty should apply to area aid applications received after the closing date. In 1994, the closing date for receipt of area aid applications was 28 April. As the 1994 area aid application for the person concerned was received on 12 May 1994, eight working days after the closing date, it was necessary to apply an 8 per cent reduction penalty. Farmers were advised in 1994 by my Department that if there was any delay in acquiring maps, these could be submitted after the closing date of 28 April 1994. Applications had however to be submitted by the closing date to avoid penalties.

Jimmy Deenihan

186 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when cattle headage, special beef and suckler cow grants will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23619/98]

The area aid application for the person named has been processed and any payments due will issue as soon as possible.
