Question:

250 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the level of cigarette and tobacco sales for each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23428/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the relevant information available relates to the quantities of cigarettes and other tobacco products released for home consumption in the past five years. Figures of the quantities released and the excise duty and VAT yield arising from the sales of cigarette and tobacco products for each of those years is as follows:
