Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Services for People with Disabilities.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

275 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider the concerns set out in correspondence (details supplied) in relation to disabled persons; if he will ensure that the budget provides funding to meet the aims set out; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23776/98]

I am aware of the concerns expressed in the latter to which the Deputy refers. As the House is aware, the Government published the 1999 Abridged Estimates on 11 November. The question of what provision should be made in the budget for further spending, and on what programmes that spending should be on, remains under consideration. It would not be appropriate for me to anticipate what the Government will decide to allocate for any particular programme, such as that for aiding people with disabilities.

The question of the granting of taxi licences for wheelchair accessible taxis is a matter for Dublin Corporation.
