288 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the inflation levels over the past 12 months on a month by month basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23890/98]

The figures requested by the Deputy on inflation rates over the past 12 months, month by month, are detailed in the following table.

The figure for October 1997 refers to an 11 month period and the figure for December 1997 to a 13 month period, reflecting the fact that the monthly CPI series commenced in January 1997. The figures from January 1998 onwards refer to a 12 month period.
