Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Seaside Resort Scheme.

Ivan Yates

Question:

290 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, there are to extend the period for which the seaside coastal resort tax designation scheme is operated; if it is the Government's intention to replace this scheme with another set of coastal zones for similar development; if not, if it is the intention to drop the scheme entirely; and if he will extend the lifetime of the existing scheme, including an area (details supplied) in County Wexford, in the absence of the introduction of a new scheme or EU difficulties with this. [23920/98]

The seaside resort scheme was introduced with effect from 1 July 1995 for three years on a pilot basis. The qualifying period was extended in the 1998 Finance Act by one year to 30 June 1999 for pipeline projects. The seaside resort scheme is being reviewed by officials from my Department, the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation and the Revenue Commissioners.
