Written Answers - Inland Waterways.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

291 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Finance if work on the Glore between Knock and Aughamore, County Mayo, will be carried out in view of the fact that the river has become overgrown and requires cleaning and it is a number of years since the Office of Public Works last carried out this work. [23922/98]

The Glore River is a scheduled channel of the Moy catchment drainage scheme. The section mentioned by the Deputy was last cleaned in late 1994. It was inspected recently by an official from the Office of Public Works and was not considered to be in need of maintenance at this time. It will be inspected again next year.

Question:

292 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Finance if work will be carried out on the Yellow river at Liscat, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, in view of the fact that this river has not been cleaned for a number of years and has become very overgrown. [23930/98]

The Yellow River is a scheduled channel of the Moy catchment drainage scheme. It was last cleaned in 1995. A recent inspection confirmed that it requires cleaning again so it will be included in the Office of Public Works' 1999 maintenance programme.
