Written Answers - Computer Programmes.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

335 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the arrangements, if any, he has put in place in his Department to offset any adverse effects of the millennium bug; the effects the millennium bug will have; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23524/98]

My Department has had a millennium bug remedial programme in place since July 1997. The programme provides a structured mechanism to identify and address such difficulties as are likely to arise in relation to information technology systems, telephone and communications facilities and office equipment and plant. The remedial programme has been progressing satisfactorily and it is expected that all the Department's critical systems will be year 2000 compliant within the next two months with the remaining systems being compliant by the second quarter of 1999 at the latest. Subject to completion of this programme I do not expect the millennium bug to have any significant effect on the work of my Department.
