Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Schools Refurbishment.

Ulick Burke

Question:

436 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposed works to be carried out in the refurbishment of Kulrichle national school, Loughrea, County Galway; the cost of the works involved; when the contract will be completed and signed; and when work will commence. [23728/98]

It is proposed to extend the ancillary facilities at the school and refurbish the existing building. Works will include extending the toilet facilities and staff room, new roof, downpipes and windows together with substantial improvement works to internal facilities such as heating and electrical systems and classrooms.

The Office of Public Works office in Galway is undertaking most of the planning work and the school has also been advised to engage the services of a mechanical and electrical engineer.
When all of the planning work has been completed, a decision will be taken on the timing of their tender and contract processes. At this stage of the planning process, it is too early to give a realistic timescale for commencement of the work.
