Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Ulick Burke

Question:

438 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans, if any, he has to alleviate the work load of teaching principals and teachers in small schools in view of the fact these teachers give a greater performance to counter balance the lack of resources in these schools. [23731/98]

A working group made up of representatives of all of the partners in education, and including a number of principal teachers, is currently examining the role of the principal. I understand that a broad range of issues are being discussed by the group, including many of the matters which are a cause for concern to the Deputy.

I expect to receive a report from the working group in 1999 at which stage I will consider all of its recommendations.
