Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Industrial Development.

Michael Noonan

Question:

103 Mr. Noonan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the progress, if any, made by the task force appointed arising from the closure of Krups, County Limerick, in identifying an alternative appropriate industry for this plant; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23645/98]

A meeting of representatives of the inter agency task force, which I set up following the announcement of the closure of the Krups Limerick plant, took place on 2 November 1998, the day the task force was established. The next meeting is scheduled to take place on 18 November 1998.

In the interim, progress has been made by IDA Ireland in identifying a number of potential interested parties. These companies have been contacted and replies are awaited to ascertain the level of interest.

In due course, the full promotional programme incorporating specific material on the Krups facility and site will be prepared and circulated worldwide in co-operation with Moulinex-Krups. This is intended to attract the maximum number of potential manufacturers to consider Limerick as a location for investment.

In addition, FÁS has compiled a comprehensive programme of information briefings and reskilling options for the Krups workforce.
