Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Apprenticeship Training.

Richard Bruton

Question:

106 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of persons with a disability who have completed apprenticeships in each of the past five years. [23853/98]

It is not possible to specifically identify the number of people with disabilities who have completed apprenticeships in each of the past five years. In general, people with disabilities prefer not to be treated differently to other trainees or apprentices when they are receiving training and for this reason FÁS does not segregate them within its administrative system.

Richard Bruton

Question:

107 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has satisfied herself that, following the close down of the Ashtown training centre, there are sufficient facilities to accommodate persons with a disability who wish to undertake apprenticeships. [23854/98]

As I indicated in my response today to a separate question from the Deputy, FÁS is currently examining the implications of an NRB report on the accessibility and suitability of FÁS premises for the delivery of services to people with disabilities. The provision of facilities to accommodate people with disabilities who wish to undertake apprenticeships will be addressed in the context of both this report and the mainstreaming of services generally.
