Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Fisheries Training School.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

114 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position in relation to an extension for the national fishery training college, Greencastle, County Donegal. [23513/98]

An application, under the human resources development sub-programme of the INTERREG community initiative programme, was made by BIM for an extension of the fisheries training school in Greencastle, County Donegal. The Department of Education and Science, which is the responsible agency for this measure, has advised that BIM's application has not been successful on the grounds that funding under the INTERREG programme for capital projects in the third level education sector has been fully committed.

I am strongly convinced of the need for additional accommodation in the Greencastle training school and I will continue to pursue opportunities for funding the school under the INTERREG community initiative.
