Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Installation Aid Scheme.

Seán Doherty

Question:

176 Mr. Doherty asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the conditions that had to be met or compiled with in order to qualify under the terms of the installation aid scheme which was suspended on 7 August 1997. [24707/98]

Under the 1994-97 scheme of installation aid which was funded jointly from EU Structural Funds and the Exchequer a premium of £5,600 was payable to a young farmer who had lodged a valid application with my Department by 7 August 1997, who was under 35 years at the date of first setting up as a full-time farmer on a farm which had a labour requirement of at least one man work unit at the date of setting up or at the latest within two years of that date and who satisfied certain occupational skill and competence criteria within two years of setting up on the farm. The farm could be owned or held on a lease of at least five years duration from the date of first setting up on the farm. Owned land had to be registered in the applicant's name before the premium was payable.
