Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Projects Funding.

Martin Brady

Question:

271 Mr. M. Brady asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position in relation to the financing of the Grange Abbey link road, Dublin 13, the Baldoyle flood relief scheme and the Dublin Bay project; and the status of each project. [24399/98]

My Department issued approval to Dublin Corporation on 19 November 1998 to the acceptance of a tender for the Grange Abbey link road. The corporation has been informed that the scheme will be subject to a maximum grant, inclusive of 1994-8 grant payments, of £3,772,765 — tender total plus site survey costs, alterations to services and landscaping costs — with an amount representing certain other costs to be agreed between my Department and the corporation. The corporation expects construction to start shortly on the Grange Abbey link road and that it will take 56 weeks to complete the works.

The Baldoyle flood relief scheme and the Dublin Bay project are included in this year's water and sewerage services investment programme. The Baldoyle scheme will be financed from the Exchequer budget. Construction is expected to commence shortly on an advance element, River Mayne outfall, of the scheme, while contract documents are being prepared for the main scheme.

Financial assistance for the initial planning and elements of construction of the Dublin Bay project has been approved by the European Commission's Cohesion Fund. It is expected that financial assistance from this fund will also be available for the remainder of the planning and construction elements. Construction is under way on contract No. 1 which involves the provision of interim sludge facilities at the Ringsend treatment works. Construction on the main treatment works is expected to start next year.
