Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Fire Stations.

Michael Ring

Question:

275 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to provide funding to build a new fire station in Westport, County Mayo. [24568/98]

The provision of a fire service, including the provision of fire stations for its brigades, is the responsibility of the local fire authority concerned, in this case Mayo County Council. My Department provides capital grants towards certain expenditure incurred by a fire authority in providing a fire service.

There is no proposal from Mayo County Council for funding for a new fire station in Westport before my Department.
