Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Housing Grants.

Ulick Burke

Question:

276 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will reintroduce a rural housing renovation grant for the primary residence of farming families in order to keep the housing stock in rural areas at a reasonable standard of repair; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24683/98]

I have no proposals to introduce a general house improvement grants scheme or a grants scheme specifically directed at houses occupied as the primary residence of farming families. I am, however, in the context of An Action Programme for the Millennium, examining, on an ongoing basis, possible options to extend the range of measures available to assist individual low-income households in securing necessary improvement works to their housing.
