Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Data Protection Directive.

Enda Kenny

Question:

92 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Public Enterprise Ireland's position in relation to the implementation of the data protection directive which was expected to be transposed into law by the end of October 1998; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24492/98]

Work to permit the transposition into Irish law of the data protection Directive, Directive 97/66EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 December 1997 concerning the processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the telecommunications sector, is well advanced and is expected to be completed in sufficient time to permit the signing of the necessary Statutory Instrument by the end of February 1999.
