Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Air Corps Strength.

Martin Brady

Question:

102 Mr. M. Brady asked the Minister for Defence the number of personnel in the Air Corps; and if he will give details regarding its reorganisation. [24403/98]

There is a total of 1,004 personnel serving in the Air Corps. However, in July 1998, the Government accepted the recommendations of the steering group on the review of the Irish Naval Service and Air Corps, that the future strength of the Air Corps should be 930 personnel. This strength figure had been determined by Price Waterhouse Management Consultants following their examination of the Air Corps.

I have recently requested the Chief of Staff to prepare, in conjunction with the GOC Air Corps, an implementation plan to give effect to the efficiency recommendations contained within Price Waterhouse's report to the EAG. I have instructed that this plan should be submitted to me early next year.
