Question:

147 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if the steering committee which has been established to prepare a strategy plan for the pig industry will consider the views of members of the public whose environment is affected by aspects of intensive pig production; the mechanism whereby these members of the public will be enabled to convey their views to the steering committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The strategy group for the pig industry, which was set up in July last, is considering all aspects of the industry, including environmental issues arising from pig production. The group comprises of representatives of various interested sectors of the industry, including the Environmental Protection Agency.
