159 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands when the Genealogical Office was asked by the Department of the Taoiseach to update its publication on the protocol dealing with the criteria for the flying of the national flag; when the publication will be available; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I understand that the proposed updating of the booklet on the national flag, An Bhratach Náisiúnta, was first discussed in January 1997 between Roinn an Taoisigh and the Genealogical Office. Since then there have been ongoing discussions on the subject between that Department and the Genealogical Office and there have also been consultations with other Government Departments, including the Department of Foreign Affairs and Defence.
It is anticipated that the new edition will be published by mid-1999.
