Vol. 497 No. 3

Written Answers - Departmental Programmes.

Jack Wall

Question:

41 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she sought to have a separate operation programme for the arts, heritage, cultural, broadcasting and Irish language areas in the Structural Funds application for the period 1999-2003. [24854/98]

My Department has forwarded an initial submission of its investment needs to the Department of Finance as part of the process for the formulation of the National Development Plan 2000-6. The submission is a general view of what are considered the investment priorities for my areas of responsibility.

I understand that the next stage of the process is that specific proposals will shortly be sought by the Department of Finance in response to the submission and in the light of similar submissions from other government agencies and interested bodies.

Consideration of whether there should be a separate operational programme for my areas of responsibility is something which would fall to be considered when the process for the formulation of the new national plan is more advanced.
