Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - Services for People with Disabilities.

Willie Penrose

Question:

40 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the monitoring committee which is overseeing the implementation of the recommendations of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities will report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25184/98]

The monitoring committee which was established to oversee the implementation of the recommendations of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities has not been asked to present a report as such.

The Deputy may have in mind the interdepartmental task force which is drafting a plan of action on the rights of people with disabilities, based on the report of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities.

The monitoring committee has a role in advising the interdepartmental task force on the prioritisation of the recommendations of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities and in providing any assistance and support required by the task force to facilitate the preparation of the plan of action.
I expect to receive the task force's report by the end of February 1999.
