Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - Casino Licensing.

Michael Noonan

Question:

52 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the proposals, if any, he has received for the establishment of a casino in Dublin; the plans, if any, he has to introduce legislation to enable casinos to be licensed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23695/98]

A number of proposals have been received in this regard in recent years. However, as indicated in a previous reply to the Deputy on 2 December 1997, I have no proposals to introduce legislation for casino licensing.

The Deputy will also be aware that the Government decided on 13 June 1996 not to allow casino gambling in this country.
