John Gormley

Question:

253 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will report on the establishment of strategic policy committees at local authority level. [25506/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 252 and 253 together.

Thirty-two of 34 city and county authorities have now established strategic policy committees. The remaining two local authorities are making progress. It is my understanding that these authorities plan to have SPCs established shortly.
Decisions on membership of SPCs are entirely matters for the local authorities concerned in accordance with the guidelines issued by my Department. I have no information on the membership of the committees.
