Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - Waste Management.

John Gormley

Question:

259 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties experienced by a company (details supplied) in the waste recycling business; if he has met with representatives of the company; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25599/98]

I refer to the replies to Questions Nos. 206 of 28 April 1998 and 337 of 6 October 1998. I am aware of ongoing developments in the markets for recyclable materials, and of the company's proposals to expand the scope of its packaging waste recovery scheme. On two occasions recently, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government addressed representatives of businesses participating in that scheme with regard to its role in the achievement of Ireland's packaging waste recovery targets.
