Question:

345 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science if the contribution of 15 per cent required by a local community towards capital costs for educational facilities will be amended in the near future. [25614/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 325 and 345 together.

At present, the standard rate of local contribution to capital projects at primary level is 15 per cent.

I have signalled my intention to introduce a new initiative in this regard at primary and post-primary levels and, in that context, I am examining the level of local contribution that will apply in respect of future projects at both levels. I hope to be in a position to make a statement on the matter shortly.
