Written Answers - Irish Adopted and Fostered People's Association.

John Gormley

Question:

203 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the work of the Irish Adopted and Fostered People's Association; if he has met with representatives of the association; and his views on its objectives. [25358/98]

The work of the Irish Adopted and Fostered People's Association has been brought to my attention in correspondence received from the association. As I explained to the House on a previous occasion, the child care legislation unit is currently examining the complex matter of post-adoption contact and associated issues with a view to the preparation of legislation in this area. An extensive consultation process will be entered into in the coming weeks and the aim of this process is to facilitate an inclusive and well informed approach to the preparation of this legislation. The Irish Adopted and Fostered People's Association will be invited to participate in the consultation process when it gets under way. I will be listening carefully to all views before finalising my proposals so that this issue can be dealt with in a coherent, integrated and sensitive manner.
