Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - Student Nurses.

Denis Naughten

Question:

202 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to ensure that college offers for student nurses will be issued at the same time as offers from the Central Applications Office in 1999 and subsequent years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25357/98]

Offers of places on the nursing registration—diploma programmes are issued to successful applicants by the Nursing Applications Centre. An Bord Altranais will assume responsibility for the overall management of this centre from 1999 onwards. I understand that the feasibility of issuing first round offers to successful applicants at the same time as offers from the Central Applications Office is being actively considered by An Bord Altranais in the context of the preparation of a timetable for next year's application and selection process for places on the programmes.
