Vol. 498 No. 2

Written Answers. - Reserve Defence Forces.

Denis Naughten

Question:

115 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Defence if the study group of the Reserve Defence Force has made an interim report to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26698/98]

The military board established by the Chief of Staff in 1997 to undertake a special study of the Reserve Defence Force submitted an interim report to the Chief of Staff earlier this year. It is anticipated that the military board's final report will be submitted to the Chief of Staff shortly.

The joint military/civilian steering group which I set up earlier this year, is tasked with overseeing and guiding the military board review of the reserve. The steering group submitted an interim report on 30 July 1998 and the group's final report is due to be submitted in the early months of next year.
