Vol. 498 No. 3

Written Answers - Hospital Services.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

130 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Health and Children when an appointment for attendance at the Mater Hospital outpatient clinic can be arranged for a person (details supplied) in County Laois who has been informed by the consultant gastroenterologist that, as a result of budgetary restrictions at the hospital, the gastroenterology ward has been closed and the outpatients clinic facility has been withdrawn; when this person will be called; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27110/98]

The provision of medical treatment in this case is the statutory responsibility of the hospital concerned. I have asked the chief executive officer of the Mater Hospital to investigate this case and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
